Dreams reveal specific purposes

Dreams reveal specific purposes 1

Welcome to Impact University.

Everyone has the ability to dream.  We should seek to understand what God is saying in the night season.

Our dreams are very valuable.

In scripture we read:

“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:”

Acts 2:17

Dreams and visions are so unique and specific.

Throughout scripture we have examples of people who have experience dreams and visions.

People such as:

King Abimelech -Genesis 20 Sarah & Abraham Midian Army – Judges 7:13-14 Gideon’s Victory Pharaoh’s butler and baker Genesis 40:5 Pharaoh Genesis 41:1,5

Nebuchadnezzar Daniel 2:1, 4, 36 Pilot’s Wife Matthew 27:19
Wise Men Matthew 2:12

Dreams are tools God uses to reach not only his people, but all those who will hear. When you look at each of the people mentioned above, we see that they have had prophetic dreams from God without belonging to him.

Their unique experiences have saved them from certain death and even brought them understanding.

Dreams and visions can be experienced by everyone.

The dream, the dreamer and the season are so very important.

Let’s look at three main purposes for our dreams and visions:

To keep us from harm or evil

The true mercy of God and His willingness to warn us in a dream.

In Genesis 20:1-3 God revealed the truth that Sarah was Abraham’s wife.  Had he not heeded the warning in the dream, he would have surely met his end.

It is God’s sovereign grace and mercy that would warn even the unbeliever.

They are an avenue to reach everyone.

Faith is not required. God just needs a person who can dream.

To reveal God’s will

“And behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the lord stood above it and said, “I am the lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac.”

Genesis 28:10–13

Just as Jacob received insight from God that God would give him the very ground he laid on and His plan for Jacob’s life, God wants to reveal His will to you.

To encourage us

In Judges chapter 7, we read of Gideon, who was able to do extraordinary things for God all because he overheard a dream. The dream said that Gideon would win the fight. This greatly encouraged him. It gave him so much strength in fact that they were able to defeat the Midianites with just one hundred men.

You will be encouraged to follow through with God’s instructions even if you are fearful. God can send you what you need to hear to strengthen you for the battle ahead.

To reveal the future

Have you ever thought, “If God would have just told me that the flood, droughts, or natural disasters were coming, I would have done some things differently”? Have you every thought, “If He would have warned me ahead of time, I could have prepared”? Dreams can reveal the future.

In Genesis 41 Pharaoh had one such dream that was interpreted by Joseph.

This dream revealed that a drought was coming upon the land. If Pharaoh ignored this dream, it would have been detrimental to the Egyptian people. However, God had greater plans.

One of the greatest avenues He uses is dreams.

To instruct

If we look in the Book of Matthew chapter 1, the angel of the Lord came and delivered to Joseph instructions concerning Mary and what he needed to do in regard to her. He was ready to divorce her. But in a dream, he was given specific instruction on what to do and how to handle the situation.

God will show up for us in times when we need to make important decisions.

Many people have told me on a regular basis that they have no idea what God has planned for their lives.

Truthfully many have had dreams and dismissed them as fantasy.

Take a fresh look at some of those older dreams.

You may be surprised that God was speaking His will into your life all along.

Take some time read pray and reflect and ask the Lord for greater revelation of the purposes for your dreams.
