Fasting brings strength

Fasting brings strength 1

Welcome to Impact University.

When you become a believer, you must understand that you cannot serve God in your own strength.  Fasting helps you tap into the Strength of God. Your spirit will become stronger through fasting, and this will help you overcome the weakness of the flesh.

Food is what gives us PHYSICAL STRENGTH. When you FAST you are depriving yourself of what gives you physical strength. You are in essence saying “The LORD is the Strength of my life.”

Fasting is a key that unlocks breakthrough in your life. There’s so many examples in the word of God where fasting has brought strength, revelation, breakthrough, wisdom, freedom, power, and intimacy with the Lord.

Jesus is speaking in Matthew 5 and 6 on kingdom living principles, and right after that he shares about the importance of prayer, then in Matthew 6:16-18 He talks about fasting.

Matthew 6:16-18 gives us clear instructions on fasting.

16 “Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the[a]hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you [b]openly. means to make firm or stable.”

When you get saved, you need to learn how to fast, my pastor taught me the importance of fasting and prayer.  It was a priority, I grew in the discipline, I started fasting twice a week. We fasted as a church, different types of fasts that we lived in.  We fasted on Tuesdays and Fridays. We did three-day fasts. We fasted all the time! Sometimes I hated it, but I learned to do it.

I remember the first time I did a four day fast. I was on my fourth day, and we were going off the fast at six o’clock. At six o’clock, I was standing at the stove with a pot. I had never fasted that long. I was counting down. I’m sharing this for someone, fasting is not supposed to be easy!

I learned that when I’m dealing with situations in my life that I can fast, and God does miracles for me.

Because there was something that was unlocked, I learned that one of the keys to living in strength is fasting.  Now, I’m not religious with it, I don’t fast the same all the time. I’m not a Pharisee. I don’t teach if you don’t fast twice a week, you’re not saved. I do know that is something that was placed in my life at a very early age in my salvation.  It has really helped establish me in breaking through.

The word in Mark 9:29 says “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”

Many strongholds and demons can fall through a time of fasting. I don’t care how tough it is. You begin to fast, and you begin to humble yourself, you begin to get miracles.

God has given me some great, great breakthroughs through fasting

because it has become a foundational truth in my life.

Strongholds in your life can be broken including poverty, sickness, witchcraft, sexual impurity, pride, fear, and confusion.

Matthew 17:21 tells us that there are some spirits in a person, region, or nation that cannot be overcome without fasting. Many believers struggle with certain limitations that they cannot seem to break through. A revelation of the power of fasting will result in victories that would not be ordinarily obtained.

I recommend fasting when you feel tired and burnt out, especially if this is due to ministering.  Not only that, but fasting actually gives your digestive system a rest, and will help you overcome tiredness and weariness. Ministry releases a lot of virtue, and you must be careful not begin to depend on your strength and your flesh in doing ministry.

A life of consistent fasting will cause many victories to manifest.

God’s will is for every believer to live a life of victory where nothing is impossible.”

FAST WHEN YOU NEED:

  • STRENGTH
  • FOCUS
  • BREAKTHROUGH
  • DELIVERANCE
  • TO BE REFRESHED
  • TO HEAR FROM THE LORD
  • TO BE RESTORED
  • BOLDNESS
  • PURITY
  • PEACE

I want to remind you, make this a priority in your life.  Not only when you’re seeking for breakthrough, but to gain strength, to be restored, to receive fresh anointing and to draw closer to God.
