The Fear of the Lord is a MASTER KEY to His Blessings 1

Welcome to Impact University.

There are a multitude of scriptures that mention the fear of the Lord. This is an important subject to study, know, and understand. In my book “The Fear of the Lord” I have examined the many verses concerning the fear of the Lord, and how applicable this is to your life and lifestyle.

The fear of the Lord is reverence and respect for Him.

He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.”

Psalm 115:13

Although the fear of the Lord is respect and reverence, we should not downplay the word too much. “The word ‘fear’ is derived from Hebrew words such as yir’ah (Proverbs 1:7; 9:10; Psalm 2:11; 19:9; 34:11), yare’ (Psalm 33:8; 86:11; Jeremiah 5:22; Ecclesiastes 12:13) and pachad (Job 23:15), which actually mean ‘fear,’ ‘terror,’ or ‘dread.’ Although many Christian teachers will downplay the ‘fear of God’ and use replacement words such as ‘respect,’ ‘reverence,’ or ‘honor,’ the Hebrew language is pretty clear.”

God blesses those who fear Him, both small and great. God expects all, no matter what their position in life, to fear and reverence Him. No one is exempt. God longs for us to fear Him.

O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

Deuteronomy 5:29

The Fear of the Lord releases blessings!

God desires for us as well as our children to be blessed. This is one of His greatest desires. God is grieved when men and women do not fear Him.

  • There are blessings you will never receive apart from the fear of the Lord.
  • The fear of the Lord will release great blessings into your life.
  • The benefits of the fear of the Lord are manifold.

ASK FOR A REVELATION OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD.

A revelation and understanding of the fear of the Lord will cause you to desire this important attribute in your life. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Fear God and keep his commitments,” the preacher concludes “this is the whole duty of man.”

In other words, this is applicable to all. This is a strong statement, and is worthy of note. One of the definitions of duty is an act of reverence or respect.

To fear the Lord is to separate (sanctify) Him from all others. It is to recognize that God is in a class all by himself.

In Isaiah 8:13 we read: “Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.”

The fear of the Lord is how we sanctify the Lord. He is to be feared above all gods. Dread is awe or fear united with respect.

“For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.”

Psalm 96:4

Another word that is not used much today is the word terrible. Terrible is frightful; adapted to excite terror; dreadful; formidable.

The fear of the Lord (along with wisdom) is another master key to many blessings.

The Scriptures have much to say about the fear of the Lord. Jesus is the perfect example of walking in the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is a one of the manifestations of the Spirit of the Lord. Notice it is connected to wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, and knowledge. These attributes are interconnected in Scripture.

“And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:2

You can learn the fear of the Lord.

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. What man is he that desireth life, And loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, And thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and pursue it. Psalm 34:11-14

Notice again that the fear of the Lord is connected to the tongue, and departing from evil. Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile. The fear of the Lord is to depart from evil. In addition, we are told to do good, seek peace, and pursue it.

The fear of the Lord is one of the most important things you can possess.
